Thanksgiving DUI Arrests
Despite stiffer penalties for DUI in California, DUI arrests were up over the thanksgiving period this year. From wednesday evening through sunday, 1,546 people were arrested for DUI statewide, up from 1,461 in 2009. However, there were fewer fatalities from DUI related accidents. In 2009 37 people were killed by drunk drivers over the thanksgiving period as opposed to 21 people this year.
Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs continues to be a major concern of prosecutors, judges and politicians and it is likely that penalties will be more and more severe in the future as DUI arrests continue to be of major public concern.
