Veteran Los Angeles prosecutor, Marilyn Seymour settled a lawsuit on tuesday agreeing to pay $1.2 million to two women injured following a traffic accident in Long Beach. Ms Seymour was arrested for DUI in Long Beach following a rear-end collision with the victims car. The defendant reportedly had a blood alcohol level of .26% and was traveling at approximately 70mph at the time of the collision. Both victims suffered significant back injuries according to their attorney.

Given the amount of the settlement and the facts of this case, Ms Seymour was lucky to be convicted of a misdemeanor DUI and not a felony DUI. A felony DUI prosecution usually results from an accident causing more than minor physical injury.
