Another example would be a client who came to me with a very very high blood alcohol level and multiple prior convictions. A client who admitted he had a significant problem with alcohol. Well that was the first step for him. Now, when he was in court, he anticipated that he would be doing a lengthy period of time in county jail and that’s how the case started. But, because of guidance given to him by us in terms of presenting to the court information about rehabilitation, the programs he had done including residential and out-patient treatment, including alcohols anonymous meetings and presenting to the court the most valuable information which was his acceptance of his problem and his willingness to deal with it. The court, the judge, over the objection of the prosecutor was willing to convert his jail time to treatment; he didn’t have to do one day in county jail.
