Long Beach Fire Captain Suspected of DUI
According to a report in the Los Angeles Times today, an arrest warrant was issued on wednesday for a Long Beach Fire Captain suspected of drunk driving. The allegation involves the suspect hitting and injuring a bicyclist while driving under the influence of alcohol on April 1st. The suspect, John David Hines, is alleged to have lost control of his pick up truck and swerved into a bike lane in Seal Beach, crashing into the bicyclist.
It is also alleged that the suspect left the scene without stopping and was followed by two witnesses to the incident. The witnesses allegedly followed Hines to his home and called the police. It is reported that Hines had a blood alcohol level of .24%. The victim suffered head trauma, internal injuries, spinal injuries and severe cuts and bruises, prosecutors said.
The facts of the case could lead to a felony conviction for drunk driving and felony hit and run. Both of these convictions could lead to a State prison sentence.
