Fatal Crash Leads to Felony DUI Charge

A tragic collision resulted in the death of three members of the same family earlier this week, in Turlock, California. Elena Flores who was 47 years of age was walking with her daughter-in-law and her two children ages two and four. A BMW, traveling at a high rate of speed, veered off the road, killing the two women instantly. The four year old later died in hospital.

The vehicle then drove into a home causing substantial damage. The driver, Luis Miguel Cruz was arrested for manslaughter, felony DUI, and felony hit and run. Cruz tried to flee the scene after the collision, but was detained by civilian by-standers according to Turlock police on Tuesday.

As DUI defense specialists in Los Angeles, Jeffrey Gold and Nigel Witham have defended many manslaughter and serious felony DUI cases. An incident like this causes a tremendous amount of stress and upset on the part of the victim's family and the family of the defendant. Defending such cases requires courage and tact.

At Gold and Witham, we make it our business to make early contact with any injured party or the family of a victim and begin the process of reparations and rehabilitation as soon as possible. Defending a serious felony DUI is not just about dealing with the facts of the case and the reliability of the evidence, but about addressing the emotional fall out for all concerned and beginning the process of trying to put lives back together.

Most DUI cases do not involve traffic collisions and thankfully do not result in injuries to other parties, but the way the Courts look at these cases is that any one who drinks and drives could kill. This is why theses cases are always treated seriously and why everyone charged with a DUI should seek representation.
