Acid Reflux and DUI Defense

|

Acid reflux, commonly known as heartburn is a common condition. It causes a painful burning sensation in the chest and sudden regurgitation of acid fluid from the stomach or burping.

It is common in elderly, pregnant or overweight clients. It can also be brought on by spicy foods or by alcohol.

The relevance of acid reflux to DUI defense is that it can cause mouth alcohol contamination in breath test cases resulting in a false high reading. If belching or acid reflux occurs, alcohol from the stomach can be introduced to the mouth and can compromise the accuracy and reliability of the breath machine.
